HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate action. Without prompt treatment, it can quickly lead to death. However, with early recognition, fast decision-making, and effective CPR, survival is possible.

This nationally recognised CPR course teaches you how to respond confidently and effectively in a cardiac emergency. You'll learn how to assess the situation, call for emergency medical help, and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on an unconscious person who is not breathing normally — significantly increasing their chance of survival.

Delivered in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, this course covers:

  • The safe and correct use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Rotating first aid responders to minimise interruptions to chest compressions

  • How to respond if the casualty vomits or regurgitates during CPR

  • How to communicate clearly and accurately when handing over to paramedics or emergency services

  • Post-incident procedures including how to review the situation, recognise potential psychological impacts on yourself and others, and seek help or debrief if needed

Whether you're a workplace first aider, a parent, a sports coach, or just someone who wants to be prepared to save a life, this CPR course provides essential, hands-on first aid training.

Vital Training First Aid offers CPR training in Gawler, Barossa, and surrounding areas, delivered by experienced instructors with flexible course options to suit individuals, schools, and businesses.
